The “A” Family – Relaxed Lake Norman Portrait Photography
I love on-location outdoor family portrait sessions. Especially when you have young kids, it really allows for them to have a little bit of freedom. It’s less intimidating for them and that little bit of freedom allows for their true personalities to shine through in the images we create from their session.
But, I’ve had a couple of sessions recently (including this one of the “A” family and one of sweet Miss Eleanor) that has turned me onto another favorite… in-home sessions. I just love what we created through both of these sessions for several reasons:
1) The children (and the family as a whole for that matter) feel comfortable from the get go.
Especially when you have younger children, they generally feel most comfortable in their own home. This is where they spend special quality time with mommy, daddy, brother and sister. This is where they lay their head to sleep at night. It’s their safe spot. Because of that, they tend to be more apt to let their true selves out, which is exactly what we want!
2) There’s a good chance that the images that are created, when printed will fit in well with your home’s decor.
One of the things you want to think about when picking both a location and wardrobe for your family portrait session is your own home decor. Where are you going to hang your portraits? What is the color palate that is used in that room or around your home? You will likely be more pleased with the final product if the colors found in your portraits do not clash with the colors in your room/home. The “A” family has a lot of neutral tones in their home with some subtle colors throughout… some blues, greens and yellows. In this family’s case, that light and airy feel along with all the natural light shining through, really allowed for the focus of the images to be on THEM. And, their choice of wardrobe (a mix of blues and neutrals) was spot on. I love how it all came together and I can’t wait to see what they choose to hang on their walls!
3) The backdrop to the images holds a special place in the family’s heart.
It all goes back to why you hire a professional photographer in the first place. Do you want a picture of your child so that you can remember what he looked like when he was oh so little? Or, do you want the experience to result in images that also evoke memories and emotions about what your child loved doing at that point in your family’s life? What better backdrops to help evoke those memories and emotions than the ones in and around your home?
Thank you “A” family for allowing me into your home to spend time with you and your sweet boys. My hope, as always, is that you look back at these images for the years to come and be taken back in time to the fond memories you are creating right now in your family’s life.
